The Charente department of Nouvelle Aquitaine is the perfect place to stop and explore the South West region of France. The area boasts beautiful undulating countryside, rolling vineyards and the iconic sunflower fields throughout July and August.

There are endless Chateaux’s, historic towns and churches to visit and vibrant cities in easy reach. The capital city, Angouleme offers great shopping and for wine and brandy lovers Bordeaux, Saint Emillion and Cognac are worth a visit. For food lovers there are weekly  bustling markets in almost every town.

If you are wanting a more active holiday you will find Kayaking on the beautiful waters of the river Dronne and horse riding, golf and water sports can be found throughout the area. For those wanting time to relax, the coast is easily accessible where you will find beautiful sandy beaches and pretty coastal towns. The Charente really does have something for eveyone.
